Lockdown fatigue is rife across the country, but one group of women have fought back to cheer each other up, socialise and raise money for charity – all remotely of course.
Members of the ladies’ section at Woodside Golf Club on Knutsford Road in Cranage were missing their Monday games and social morning so much, they simply moved it online.
New Lady Captain, Linda Crowder took over on January 18 and soon set to work getting the friends together again.
She said: “It had been so nice to be able to play golf again over summer and was a real blow to our group when lockdown meant we had to stop again. Our Monday mornings are a bit of a lifeline to so many of us. Before Covid we would play golf together in small groups then meet up afterwards in the clubhouse to catch up with everyone else.
“I wanted to keep that momentum going and find a way of us all still being able to see our friends, so I set up the weekly zoom coffee mornings.”
Each week the coffee morning includes competitions such as indoor putting, golf ball decorating and a keepy-uppy golf challenge. Golf course travel blogs, golf themed cake decorating, bingo and quizzes have all played a part in keeping everyone’s spirits up.
To top it off Linda has made a great start to fundraising year as Lady Captain, by raising £500 despite not being able to run the usual fundraisers.
She said: “The charity I have chosen for my year as Lady Captain is Parkinson’s UK. I am overwhelmed by people’s generosity and can’t wait to build on the money raised so far once we can get back to golf and holding our usual competitions and raffles.
“We are all looking forward to getting back to the tee on March 29!”
