A new Chief Executive has taken over at Age UK Cheshire East. Lynne Elliot joins the charity as it evolves its service to support even more local older people.
Lynne has been a charity Chief Executive for over 15 years. During that time, she has, amongst other things, supported a network for young people’s charities, led an organisation that worked with services users and their carers to take part in commissioning health and social care services and managed a Survivor organisation. She comes to Age UK Cheshire East after 8 years as CEO of The Vegetarian Society, a national education charity, so no surprise to hear that she is vegetarian, loves cooking, is interested in nutrition and passionate about the planet.
Lynne says “A long time ago, one of my first jobs was as a community worker at Bramley Elderly Action and I love working with older people. My Mum is 90 and I find it inspiring spending time with her and her friends because they are funny and wise and sometimes stubborn and quite opinionated but brave and full of life experience.
I believe that older people have a big contribution to make to society. Their long lives have taught them a lot about the world already. As we all get older we still want to do the things we like, retain our independence, have a sense of purpose in our lives and have fun.
As we age, it can get harder to do all this and that’s where Age UK Cheshire East comes in. We find out what local older people want, so we can put that at the heart of everything we do. One of the things that people have said they need is good information that they can trust. On the appointment of Lynne as the new CEO, Jenni Hardy, Chair of Trustees commented “I am excited by Lynne’s appointment, I think she will bring a positive focus on providing a range of services that best meet the needs of our older people.”
Our Charity’s mission is to ‘improve later life for people in Cheshire East’. In 2018, it celebrated its 30th anniversary, having provided help and support to many thousands of older people in Cheshire East since its formation back in 1988.
