Musica Nova are delighted to welcome Julian Plummer and Richard Bourn from The Hallé as the soloists in the Concerto for 2 Horns in E-flat by Haydn / Rosetti at All Saints' Church, Cheadle Hulme takes on Saturday 18th January 2025 at 7:30pm.
The Concerto for 2 Horns in E-flat major is a captivating work that has been attributed to Haydn, although strong evidence suggests it may have actually been written by Antonio Rosetti, a German/Czech composer who was known for his horn concertos and was a contemporary of Haydn. Whether by Haydn or Rosetti, the concerto remains a vibrant and essential part of the horn repertoire, celebrated for its virtuosity, interplay between the soloists, and its rich musical texture.
The concert opens with the Sinfonia Veneziana, a delightful piece by the Italian composer Antonio Salieri, a contemporary of Mozart. The work is often associated with the Venetian style, which may refer to its light, lively and festive character evoking the atmosphere of Venice, where Salieri spent time.
Mozart’s elegant and playful Posthorn Serenade K.320 is the final piece in the concert. The Posthorn Serenade is a work for orchestra, featuring soloistic parts for flutes, piccolo, oboes, bassoons and posthorn, a brass instrument used to signal the arrival or departure of a post rider or mail coach, from which the serenade takes its name.
The concert takes place at All Saints’ Church, Church Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 7JL on Saturday 18th January 2025 at 7:30pm.
