A Macclesfield mother will undertake a gruelling 88-kilometre, 10-day Arctic expedition to raise £5,000 for MyCWA (known as Cheshire Without Abuse) - one of the UK’s longest-running domestic abuse charities.
When Victoria Cook, aged 43, left an abusive relationship, MyCWA provided crucial support:
"The toughest times came when the relationship ended and I needed advice and support more than ever before. I don't know where I would be without MyCWA's help. These aren’t just support services – they’re lifelines."
The Arctic trek will test Victoria's endurance as she navigates freezing temperatures and challenging terrain. Starting in the Norwegian village of Lakselv, Victoria will trek 88-kilometres across countryside to Alta. Despite being new to Arctic conditions, her determination is unwavering. "MyCWA was there for me in my darkest hours," she says. "Now it's my turn to support them.”
Expedition preparation has been gruelling. Victoria trains for her expedition by pulling a 30kg tyre called Tyrelor Swift (previously she pulled a 15kg weight dubbed 'Weightney Houston') across beaches and countryside.
She said:
"I'm already onto my third pair of shoes from traipsing through the mud," she says. "If you see me out training with Tyrelor Swift, please feel free to say hello!"
Saskia Lightburn-Ritchie, CEO of MyCWA, says:
"Victoria's incredible journey mirrors the courage we see in survivors every day. The funds she raises will help us continue providing vital support to families affected by domestic abuse across Cheshire."
