Doorstep Treats for D/deaf in Isolation

People living with memory loss and/or a sensory loss have enjoyed a special festive afternoon tea thanks to a charity.

Those living across Cheshire and North Wales in isolation as a result of the pandemic enjoyed freshly made cakes, sandwiches and Christmas treats from DSN recently.

The charity which normally runs You Me and Tea’ a cafe to support those with dementia, memory loss and a sensory loss and their carers, has been unable to host the monthly meet ups due to the Coronavirus restrictions imposed by the government.

In a bid to lift spirits, the team at DSN worked to help arrange the virtual afternoon tea and ensured the boxes where delivered to doorsteps safely.

We were really overwhelmed by the response from people,” said Gill Reeder, Operations Executive. After such a hard year, it was lovely to see the smiles the afternoon teas brought to people’s faces and we were so happy we could do this around this important time of year.

As part of their package of support for people isolating, DSN also won a bid to purchase tablets so that sign users could communicate with their friends and family. They also arranged activity packs to be delivered to help to stimulate people, many of whom hadnt seen anyone for months.

A huge thanks to all the team for their work and determination to get this arranged,” added Gill. We are so proud of them and the work they do all year round.
