Sandbach resident John-Paul ‘JP’ Morris was among the brave runners who took on the Great North Run in support of the National Deaf Children’s Society on Sunday 8 September.
JP completed the famous course, which winds through Newcastle, passing over the iconic Tyne Bridge into Gateshead and finishing in South Shields, in a time of two hours and four minutes.
He has raised over £300 so far for the charity, which supports the UK’s 50,000 deaf children.
JP ran in support of the National Deaf Children’s Society because he is deaf himself. He benefitted from the charity’s support as a child and admires their work to break down barriers for future generations. He also plans to compete in the Chester Marathon on 6 October for the charity.
JP works for Greater Manchester Police Service as an Operational Support Officer and lives in Sandbach.
On completing the Great North Run, JP said:
“What a memorable experience! The crowds were absolutely brilliant, just like at the London Marathon, which I did back in 2021. The conditions weren’t the best, but thinking of why I was doing it kept me going.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the National Deaf Children Society for giving me the opportunity to take part in such iconic events on their behalf.”
Hannah Awesome, who supports fundraisers for the National Deaf Children’s Society, added:
“We’re so grateful to JP for taking on the Great North Run for us. It was a great achievement and we’re very proud of you.
“The National Deaf Children’s Society is dedicated to supporting the UK’s 50,000 deaf children and their families. The efforts of selfless fundraisers like JP will help us to keep on doing our vital work, now and into the future.”
