Cheshire Football Association (CFA) is thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration with DSN (Deafness Support Network) to present a unique opportunity for club officials and team managers.
The first Deaf Awareness Training Workshop, hosted in partnership with Incus Training, promises to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of deafness-related terms and effective communication strategies.
Scheduled to take place at the Cheshire FA Headquarters in Northwich (CW8 4BG) on Thursday, 18 January, from 6pm to 8.30pm, this FREE workshop aims to enhance the knowledge of football communities on how to identify and communicate with individuals who are deaf. The event is open to all CFA club officials and team managers.
The workshop will be led by Brian Cadwallader, the lead trainer at Incus Training, the training arm of DSN which has offices in Northwich, Macclesfield and Chester.
Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance, recognising their commitment to advancing their understanding of deafness and promoting inclusivity within the football community.
Steve Smithies, CEO of Cheshire FA, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration. He said:
"We are excited to present this fantastic opportunity for our staff and club officials to join us at CFA for a Deaf Awareness Training workshop with DSN. The importance of this training to our staff and the wider football communities will provide additional knowledge on how to identify and communicate with those with a hearing impairment."
Brian Cadwallader, lead for Incus Training, shared his perspective on the significance of the workshop. He added:
“We are delighted to collaborate with Cheshire FA in delivering this crucial Deaf Awareness Training. By fostering understanding and effective communication, we aim to create a more inclusive football environment. Together with Cheshire FA, we are taking a step towards making football accessible to everyone, regardless of their hearing."

DSN (Deafness Support Network)
Trustees of the Chester and North Wales Society for the Deaf, and of the Warrington and District Society for Deaf People, together made a landmark decision in 1976 to form the Cheshire Society for the Deaf, now operating as Deafness Support Network (DSN).
DSN is the service provider organisation for D/deaf* people in the county of Cheshire and the surrounding areas. These services are delivered under contract for Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, and Flintshire Councils.
*The word Deaf (with a capital D) is used to denote individuals whose first language is British Sign Language, whilst the term D/deaf refers to everyone with hearing loss: Deaf, deaf, deafened, D/deafblind and hard-of-hearing.
The local societies (Deaf Clubs) in Chester, Warrington and Vale Royal retained their independence and continue to thrive to this day, sharing premises with DSN. Each society serves a distinct local community but is strengthened by its partnership with DSN, which is able to innovate and develop, whilst acting as a guide and support for the local organisations.
