Here's how we're celebrating this milestone at East Cheshire NHS Trust and how our local communities can join in.
Patients and visitors on the day:
- Support our ‘NHS Big Tea’ – Purchase a piece of Birthday cake from the main entrance of Macclesfield Hospital between 12.30pm – 2.30pm for £2 per slice. All proceeds go towards our hospital charity
- Treetops 1948 themed menu – Our catering team will be serving up a lunch menu featuring favourites from the 1940’s from 12 noon – 2pm. Staff, patients and visitors can purchase one hot meal choice for £1.70 from the list below and receive a free Costa Coffee from the machine.
- Tomato soup and bread roll
- Meatloaf & Gravy
- Bubble & Squeak
- Fish cakes & Tomato sauce
- Cheese & Onion Pie
- Bangers and Mash
- Savoury Mince & cabbage
- Ham & Eggs
- Special patient lunch service - As a special addition, all patients will receive an individually boxed scone with jam and cream with the lunch service.
Staff celebrations on the day:
- The Great East Cheshire 75th Bake-Off competition - Staff have been invited to enter their ‘showstoppers’ into a baking competition taking place at lunchtime at Macclesfield Hospital. Following the competition, we will be hosting our own ‘NHS Big Tea’ event from 12.30pm – 2.30pm at the main entrance of Macclesfield Hospital where the birthday cakes will be sold at £2 per slice. Proceeds will go our Trust charity.
- Time capsule burial and ‘Macclesfield Brass’ performance – Staff have been invited to enter items of memorabilia from present day into a time capsule which will be buried by the duck pond at Macclesfield Hospital to be unearthed in 25 years on the 100th anniversary. During the burial, local brass band ‘Macclesfield Brass’ will be performing a selection of well-known songs from past and present.
- Congleton’s ‘Big Tea’ event – Staff will be bringing in cakes to Congleton War Memorial Hospital which will be available with refreshments in the afternoon for staff, patients and visitors. There will be a wellbeing corner, playlist of music to reflect the 75 years and other games such as bingo, quoits and darts for any patients that want to join in. Some members of nursing staff are expected to be in historic dress with other items of memorabilia on display.
- Knutsford’s Great Big Community Quiz – Staff at Knutsford Community Hospital will be taking part in a 1948 themed quiz which will be hosted online from 3pm – 4pm. There is a recommended donation for staff to enter the quiz of £1 each with all proceeds going to the Trust charity.

Chief Executive Ged Murphy said, “We’ve got lots of activities happening across all our sites to celebrate the NHS 75th anniversary so we’re asking everyone to get involved. It’s a fantastic opportunity to raise some money for our Trust charity and celebrate the hard work of all our colleagues and the brilliance of the NHS.”
