Barons Quay is open and ready for you

Barons Quay is open and showing how it is possible to provide a successful and safe retail and leisure environment for residents.

All retail units that were open prior to lockdown have now reopened with added safety measures in place, including Card Factory, Sports Direct, The Entertainer, River Island and H&M.

Other food, beverage and leisure units are open or due to open over the coming weeks, including Wildwood, Coffee House and Odeon. Sticky Paws are also open with a takeaway service.

There have been a number of key safety measures put in place across Barons Quay and Northwich, some of these are:

  • signage and floor markings in place for guidance
  • an enhanced cleansing regime. Town Centre Cleansing is being co-ordinated collaboratively between Cheshire West and Chester Council and Northwich Town Council, there will be a regular review to ensure that high standards are met as expected by Northwich visitors
  • new signs have been brought into Northwich as a reminder that social distancing of two metres is still in place, at narrow points like the bridges, pedestrian give way signs are also in place
  • the Council and Northwich Business Improvement District (Northwich BID) are monitoring queuing systems in the town centre.

Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Growth, said: “I am pleased to see that Barons Quay and the rest of the town centre has emerged from lockdown in such a positive way. I am really grateful to the Town Council, the BID, the traders and resident groups who are all working together to create a welcoming space for people to enjoy.

“We want to make sure that shopping and dining in the town can continue, but as safely as possible. We ask that when out and about enjoying all that Northwich has to offer, you adhere to all of the safety measures in place, keep your distance and make sure that you are washing your hands regularly.

“We understand that it has been an extremely difficult time for businesses across the borough and are committed to supporting them throughout the recovery.

“In Barons Quay, discussions are continuing with potential new tenants and we hope that we will be able to share positive news about this in the coming months.”
